Wilbert Smith organized Canada's Project Magnet around ~1950~, which was intended to detect UFO-s.
The project requested 1000 Canadian Dollars, and the use of an ionospheric tracking station under Smith's control. Smith was directing the Canadian AM broadcasting research, working with American broadcasting industry.
At a meeting in Washington, D.C., Smith discovered that American officials were talking excitedly about UFO-s, which began Smith's research curiosity, and his contact with American intelligence.
The official Canadian ionospheric station -slash- UFO detection station, retrofitted with UFO-detection on four channels of measurement, and an alarm to alert the weather station people next door, detected its first and only UFO. The project was shut down two days after the first detection on Dev's birthday on August 8, 1954.
